LOCATION!
That’s one of the most important things when visiting Amsterdam. Well…the POSTHOORN is situated in just about the best location in Amsterdam, in the very hart of the 18th century old city centre. If you look outside you have the feeling you are sitting in an 18th century painting. All around you, you see 300 year to over 400 year old canalhouses! Of course the Posthoorn Amsterdam itself is a house with lots of history.(MAP)
The Posthoorn is located right on the edge of the Jordaan, which used to be the poorest area of Amsterdam in the olden days, but is now the most trendy and popular area by locals and tourists. There is a maze of small streets, with many lovely restaurants, pubs and boutiques. On almost every corner is a café with an outdoor terrace, where you can enjoy the comming and going of the boats on the canal. In the 18th century this part of Amsterdam was the home of the workman and the area where many imported ware was stored, which came by boat from all over the world. Therefore you still see the many old warehouses, which have been converted into beautiful loft appartments.
The central location of the Posthoorn Amsterdam is perfect for your visits to many of the important sights and close to the trainstation. The Anne Frankhouse, the Nine Streets, Damsquare, Westertoren, red light district, the Jordaan and off course the Canals and the Noordermarkt are just a few minutes walking. On the Noordermarkt is a very nice market twice a week, which is just opposite the Posthoorn.
There is a small shuttle bus, the ‘STOP & GO’, which runs along the Prinsengracht all the way from the station to the ‘Waterlooplein’ and will stop at any place where you want to get off or on. So it will also stop right in front of the Posthoorn if you wish! This bus is an ideal way to get around Amsterdam and only cost € 1,- per ticket! And than off course there is the bike!! There are many places where you can rent a bike for the day, also just around the corner for € 10.- per day, another great way to enjoy Amsterdam!!
